Waiver, release and membership terms

Last updated 26 September 2026

Everyone who trains at Fightlab signs this before their first class: adults for themselves, and a parent or legal guardian for anyone under 18. You sign it online when you create your account, or in your account.

1. Martial arts carry real risk

  • Muay Thai, Taekwon-Do, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, fitness and personal training are physical, contact activities. They involve striking, kicking, throwing, grappling, sparring and hard exercise.
  • Injuries can happen even when everyone follows the rules: bruises, cuts, sprains, dislocations, broken bones, concussion and, rarely, serious injury, permanent disability or death.
  • I take part voluntarily, I accept these risks, and I am responsible for my own safety and for training within my limits.

2. Release of liability

  • To the fullest extent permitted by law, I release Fightlab Martial Arts, its owners, coaches, staff and helpers from all liability for any injury, illness, loss or damage I suffer from classes, training, sparring, gradings, competitions, events or using the gym, and I will not make any claim against them for it.
  • I am responsible for my own medical, hospital and treatment costs. I am encouraged to have my own medical or personal accident insurance.

3. Health and fitness

  • I am in good health and know of no medical reason that makes training unsafe for me.
  • I will tell my coach before class about any injury, medical condition, medication or pregnancy, and keep the medical notes in my profile up to date.
  • If I am unsure whether I can train, I will check with a doctor first. I will stop and tell the coach if I feel unwell, dizzy or in pain.
  • I will not train under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

4. Gym rules

  • I will follow the coaches' instructions. I will only spar when a coach allows it, wearing the protective equipment they ask for.
  • I will train with control and respect for my partners, and never try to hurt anyone.
  • I will come in clean kit with trimmed nails and no jewellery. If I have a skin infection, I will tell a coach and stay home until it has cleared.
  • Fightlab may refuse or remove anyone from a class for safety or behaviour, without a refund.

5. First aid and emergencies

  • I agree that Fightlab may give first aid, call emergency services and contact my emergency contact if needed. Any costs are mine.

6. Belongings

  • Fightlab is not responsible for personal belongings that are lost, stolen or damaged at the gym or at events.

7. Payments: no refunds

  • All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, including packages, memberships, the registration fee, walk-ins, private and semi-private sessions and space rental. This includes unused classes, injury, illness and moving away, except where the law requires otherwise.
  • Classes must be used within the package's validity. Unused classes expire at the end of it.
  • If Fightlab cancels a class, the class goes back on my package.

8. Photos and videos

  • Classes, gradings and events may be photographed or filmed, and Fightlab may use the photos and videos on its website and social media. I can ask in writing not to appear.

9. Children under 18

  • A parent or legal guardian must sign for a child. By signing, they agree to these terms for the child and for themselves, confirm the child is fit to train, and are responsible for the child before and after class.

10. Personal details

  • Fightlab keeps my details to run my membership and bookings and to contact me or my emergency contact, as described in its privacy policy and the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

11. Agreement

  • I have read and understood this waiver, had the chance to ask questions, and sign it freely. It applies every time I train at or with Fightlab, including events and competitions away from the gym.
  • If any part of it cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. It is governed by the laws of Malaysia.
