Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: common questions
- Do I need experience to start Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
- No. Most people start with none. Classes teach positions and escapes step by step, and the coach pairs beginners with partners at their level. Rolling (sparring) is optional until you're ready.
- What's the difference between gi and no-gi BJJ?
- In gi BJJ you wear a jacket and trousers and can use grips on the fabric, which makes the game slower and more technical. No-gi is trained in a rash guard and shorts, with faster, grip-free scrambles. Peter coaches both.
- Is BJJ good for self-defence?
- Yes. BJJ teaches you to stay safe on the ground, escape bad positions and control someone bigger without striking. Peter has delivered self-defence and restraint seminars for the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).
- How much are BJJ classes?
- A walk-in BJJ class is RM 35. The BJJ package is RM 100 a month for 4 classes, and 3, 6 and 12-month packages cost less per month. New members pay a one-time RM 80 registration fee with their first package.
- When are the BJJ classes?
- Every Saturday. See the class times below, then buy a walk-in pass and book online, or walk in and pay at the gym.
